Helping the Environment

Recycling Program

Bashas’ has many initiatives in place to reduce our impact on the environment. In fact, we were recycling in Arizona in the 1970s — before it was the “in vogue” thing to do. We were the first Arizona grocer to recognize the importance of sustainability by recycling cardboard more than 40 years ago.

As part of our longstanding pledge to serve Arizona communities, we’re committed to conserving energy, water and fuel, in addition to recycling plastic bags, cardboard, shrink-wrap, plastic bottles, paper, metal from bakery racks and shopping carts, and other supplies.

We work with vendors, suppliers, customers, municipalities, public utility companies and our thousands of employees on our sustainability initiatives.

Cage-Free Eggs

Bashas’ Family of Stores is committed to responsible sourcing of consumer products. In 2016, Bashas’ partnered with a longtime supplier, Hickman’s Eggs, to become the first grocer in Arizona to transition our private-label eggs to 100% cage-free. Through that partnership, we met our commitment of 100% Bashas’ private-label large dozen eggs conversion to cage-free by the end of 2017.

Working alongside our suppliers, including Hickman’s, we continue to take steps towards our commitment of 100% cage-free in all of our store formats by end of 2025 through conversion of three other egg sizes and counts and will have 20% of our products transitioned by the end of 2020. Bashas’ will continue its commitment as long as the industry supply allows.
